For most home puja rooms, a 12 to 18 inch Jugal Jodi strikes the right balance between visual presence and daily worship ease. Under 8 inches often loses facial detail and feels underwhelming as a centrepiece. The 24 to 36 inch range suits dedicated mandir alcoves or large drawing rooms where the sculpture becomes the focal point. Anything above 4 feet is generally reserved for community temples, farmhouse mandirs, or ashram installations. If you are commissioning a Jugal Jodi as a wedding or housewarming gift, 15 inches is our most requested size.

Vastu Shastra recommends placing the Jugal Jodi in the North-East corner of the home, known as the Ishan Kon, considered the most auspicious zone for deities. The statue itself should face East or West so that the devotee sits facing the opposite direction during prayer. Avoid placing the Jugal Jodi in bedrooms, directly on the floor, or in cluttered areas. Traditional practice also advises keeping it on a raised, clean platform, offering fresh flowers and a lit diya, and never storing broken or damaged idols in the same sacred space.

All three work beautifully; the right choice depends on priority. Makrana marble is denser, harder, and known to hold its ivory sheen for generations — the Taj Mahal is proof — making it our first recommendation for heirloom pieces meant to pass through the family. Vietnam White is softer and easier to carve into intricate detail, so it suits statues where facial expression, fine jewelry, and fabric folds are elaborate. Bhainslana, a golden-hued Rajasthani marble, is a heritage third option we hand-carve for clients who want a warmer, temple-antique tonality instead of pure white.

Wipe the statue weekly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth to lift dust. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one — never let water pool in the carved crevices, especially around Radha's hair, Krishna's flute, or the peacock feather. Avoid all acidic cleaners like vinegar or lemon, chemical polishes, and abrasive scrubbing pads, as these etch marble permanently. If your Jugal Jodi has Swarna Karya gold leaf, skip water on those sections entirely and dust gently with a fine brush. Once every few years our artisans can re-polish and refresh gilding on pieces we have made.

A custom Jugal Jodi typically takes 30 to 90 days depending on size, marble type, and detailing — larger statues with gold-leaf work sit at the longer end. You can specify the pose. The classic standing tribhanga with Krishna playing the flute suggests loving cosmic play; a seated Jugal Jodi on a lotus base conveys meditative devotion; dancing Rasa poses represent divine joy; and rare Jhulan compositions with a swing are also possible for connoisseurs.
