PLPS Art Gallery is a handcrafted marble statue manufacturer based in Chandpole Bazar, the traditional sculpture quarter of Jaipur's old city. The workshop opened its doors in 1950 and is now run by the fourth generation of the founding family. Our founder, Pandit Lallu Prasad Sharma, went on to be honoured with the Shilp Guru title — the highest national award for a traditional master craftsman in India.
The work we do covers a wide range: deity sculptures for temples and homes, portrait busts, memorial statues, life-size commissions for hotels and public spaces, and bespoke pieces for private collectors. Every statue is carved by hand from a single block of marble. The stone itself is chosen based on the piece — Makrana for traditional work, Vietnam white or Italian Statuario when uniform whiteness matters, Bhainslana for premium black. What ships is what a fourth-generation artisan made, on our own workshop floor, from start to finish.

Every moorti we ship out was carved in our own workshop, by artisans on our own payroll. We don't hand pieces off to job-workers halfway through. It's slower that way sometimes, but it's the only way the finish comes out the same on every piece.
This isn't a studio that just opened up to catch the marble moorti search wave. Our workshop has been on this same street since 1950. A lot of the manufacturer names you'll find on Google above ours opened decades after we did.
Our senior artisan goes to the Makrana quarries himself and picks the blocks. He looks at the grain, hairline cracks, colour tone. Nothing gets loaded onto a truck until he signs off. Vietnam and Bhainslana marble get the same treatment.
The chisels are better now. So is the polishing wax. But the actual sequence of cuts, the way an eye is opened up, how a drapery fold gets undercut — that's all from the founder's teaching. Every apprentice on the floor still learns that first.
A single nine-inch Ganesha for someone's puja room. A hundred idols for a temple committee. Both start the same way: a conversation, a design brief, a sign-off. The bigger order doesn't get rushed just because it's bigger.
The process has not changed in seven decades — because the results have not needed improvement.
It starts with a chat. You send us reference photos, a rough sketch, or just a description of what you want. We'll ask about pose, iconography, size, where the moorti will be placed. Nothing gets carved until we're on the same page.
The stone matters as much as the carving. Our senior artisan picks the block based on grain and colour, matched to what you've commissioned. Makrana for traditional temple work. Vietnam when you need uniform white. Bhainslana if the deity calls for premium black.
Before any carving starts, we lock every detail with you — pose, iconography, proportions, ornaments. Sketches, references, existing samples, whatever it takes. Only after you sign off on the design does the marble come out.
The artisan starts rough and works down to detail. Depending on size and complexity this takes anywhere from 15 days to about 3 months. Nothing gets rushed. Nothing goes out to another workshop.
This is where the moorti really comes alive. Hand-polished for that soft, glass-like sheen marble is known for. A machine can't judge this step — the polish comes right when it feels right under the artisan's hand.
Reinforced wooden crating, insurance, full export documentation for orders going overseas. For deliveries inside India we use partners we've worked with for years. Nothing leaves the workshop without the senior artisan's sign-off.

Most custom orders start with something small: a photo of a moorti you saw in a temple, a family deity your grandparents used to have, or a rough sketch. We confirm the design details with you — pose, proportions, ornaments — and then carving begins.
Timelines usually run about 30 to 60 days, depending on size and detail. Life-size or unusual iconography pushes it closer to 90 or 120. Either way, you get WhatsApp photos at each major stage. That way there are no surprises when the crate arrives.

Pandit Lallu Prasad Sharma opened the workshop in 1950. Over the decades that followed, his work picked up recognition at the highest levels of the Indian government. The National Award for master craftsmanship. The Gold Medal from the Ministry of Textiles. And eventually the Shilp Guru title, conferred by the President of India. In the traditional-craft world that's about as close to a lifetime achievement award as it gets.
He trained his sons the same way his own teachers had trained him. His sons trained their sons. The workshop is now being run by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and every apprentice on the floor still starts out with the founder's method book.

Machine-cut sculptures have the tell-tale symmetry of programmed CNC work; hand-carved marble has small, intentional asymmetries that give it life. Yes. Every commissioned marble statue ships with a signed certificate of authenticity documenting the marble source (Makrana quarry, Vietnam, Bhainslana), carving dates, artisan names, and provenance from the PLPS workshop. This matters especially for collectors and export buyers.
Yes. We regularly ship marble statues to the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, UAE, Singapore and Malaysia. Each piece is reinforced-crated, insured, and shipped with full export documentation including HSN classification and country-of-origin certificates.
Our default is Makrana marble from the Nagaur quarries — the same stone used in the Taj Mahal. We also work in Vietnam white marble (for uniform whiteness), Bhainslana black marble (rare Rajasthani black), Italian Statuario, Ambaji, and Rajnagar white. Choice depends on the sculpture, the setting, and how the piece will age.
Yes. Portrait busts, memorial sculptures, and full-body figure work in marble are all part of our regular commission work. For portrait busts we work from photographs — usually three or four angles are enough for us to lock down the likeness before carving.
